# Why Some Navigation Options Are Gray Ever noticed that some items in your navigation bar are gray? Don't worry—nothing's broken! Let's explain what's happening and why. ## You Can See Everything (Even If You Can't Use It Yet) Here's something that might seem a bit unusual at first: **every feature in Comm.care shows up in your navigation bar**, whether you can use it or not. So you might see Services, Calendar, Incidents, Risks, and Feedbacks listed, even if you haven't activated all those features yet. ![[Comm-care-12-15-2025_09_42_PM.png]] **Why do we do this?** Simple. We want you to see what's possible. Think of it like window shopping—you can browse and explore before you decide what you want to add to your account. ## What Does Gray Mean? When you see a navigation label that's **gray**, it means that feature isn't included in your current plan. You can still click on it to take a look around and see what it does. When a label is **normal looking** (not gray), that feature is ready to use right now. ## What Happens When You Click a Gray Label? Go ahead and click one—we encourage it! You'll be able to see the screen and get a feel for what that feature offers. But if you try to actually do something (like click a button or create something), a friendly message will pop up saying: **"This feature is only available for accounts with [Product Name] activated."** Then you'll see two buttons: - **Activate** - This takes you to where you can add that product to your account - **Go back** - This just closes the message and you carry on as you were ![[Comm.care (3).gif]] No pressure either way. We just want you to know what's available when you're ready. ## What's Included in Your Plan? Here's a quick reference for what you can access based on what you've got activated: | Feature | What You Need | | --------- | ----------------------------------- | | Profile | Everyone gets this | | Services | CMS | | Circles | Everyone gets this | | Calendar | CMS - Enterprise | | Incidents | QMS | | Risks | QMS | | Feedbacks | QMS | | Documents | Everyone gets this | | Templates | Everyone gets this | | Staff | Everyone gets this | | Reports | CMS | | MDS | CMS Enterprise + MDS funding source | | DEX | CMS Enterprise + DEX funding source | ### A Quick Note About MDS and DEX These two are a bit special. They'll **only show up** in your navigation if you have both CMS Enterprise **and** the right funding source set up. If you don't have both, you won't even see them listed—no gray labels for these ones. ## Circle-Level Navigation When you're inside a circle, you'll see these navigation options: 1. **Calendar** 2. **Timeline** 3. **Participant** 4. **Roadmap** ![[Comm-care-12-15-2025_09_46_PM.png]] All four options are always visible in circle navigation. However, certain actions within these sections (like adding services to a roadmap) may require specific products to be activated. ## What This Means for You **If you're on Platform (no products activated):** You'll see many gray labels in the navigation. You can explore these screens to understand what's available, but you'll need to activate products to use them. **If you have QMS activated:** You'll have full access to Incidents, Risks, and Feedbacks. Other features like Services and Calendar will appear grayed out. **If you have CMS activated:** You'll have access to Services and Reports. CMS Enterprise gives you additional access to Calendar and staff availability features. **If you upgrade or downgrade:** Your navigation will automatically update to reflect your new product access. For example, if you downgrade from CMS Enterprise to CMS Professional, the Calendar label will turn gray, and any scheduled appointments will be hidden (but not deleted). ## Why We Do It This Way We keep all labels visible because: - **Transparency** - You know what features exist without hunting through upgrade pages - **Discovery** - You can explore features before purchasing - **Context** - You understand what your subscription includes vs. what requires an upgrade This way, you're never surprised by hidden features, and you can make informed decisions about which products best fit your needs. ## Need to Activate a Product? If you see a grayed-out feature you'd like to use: 1. Click the feature label 2. Try to interact with something on the screen 3. Click **Activate** in the popup 4. You'll be taken to the Credit Modal to activate the required product ![[help/setup-and-configuration/Attachments/Comm.care (4).gif]] Only Managers can activate products.
