# Why Some Navigation Options Are Gray Ever noticed that some items in your navigation bar are gray? Don't worry—nothing's broken! Let's explain what's happening and why. ## You Can See Everything (Even If You Can't Use It Yet) Here’s something that might seem a bit unusual at first: **every feature in Comm.care appears in your navigation bar**, whether it’s activated or not. So you might see **Services, Calendar, Incidents, Risks, and Feedback** listed—even if you haven’t enabled all of those features yet. ![[Comm-care-12-15-2025_09_42_PM.png]] **Why do we do this?** Simple. We want you to see what’s possible. Think of it like window shopping—you can **explore what’s available before deciding what to add to your account.** ## What Does Gray Mean? When a navigation label is **gray**, it means that feature isn’t included in your current plan. You can still click on it to explore and see what it does. When a label appears **normal (not gray)**, that feature is active and ready to use. ## What Happens When You Click a Gray Label? Go ahead and click one—we encourage it! You'll be able to see the screen and get a feel for what that feature offers. If you try to take an action (such as clicking a button or creating a record), a friendly message will appear: **"This feature is only available for accounts with [Product Name] activated."** Then you'll see two buttons: - **Activate** — Takes you to where you can add the product to your account - **Go back** — Closes the message and returns you to where you were ![[Comm.care (3).gif]] No pressure either way—we just want you to know what's available when you're ready. ## What's Included in Your Plan? Here’s a quick reference showing which features are available based on what you’ve activated: | Feature | What You Need | | --------- | ----------------------------------- | | Profile | Available to everyone | | Services | CMS | | Circles | Available to everyone | | Calendar | CMS - Enterprise | | Incidents | QMS | | Risks | QMS | | Feedbacks | QMS | | Documents | Available to everyone | | Templates | Available to everyone | | Staff | Available to everyone | | Reports | CMS | | MDS | CMS Enterprise + MDS funding source | | DEX | CMS Enterprise + DEX funding source | ### A Quick Note About MDS and DEX These two features are a bit special. They will **only appear in your navigation** if you have **CMS Enterprise** _and_ the required funding source configured. If either requirement is missing, they won’t appear at all—no gray labels for these. ## Circle-Level Navigation When you're inside a circle, you'll see these navigation options: 1. **Calendar** 2. **Timeline** 3. **Participant** 4. **Roadmap** ![[Comm-care-12-15-2025_09_46_PM.png]] All four options are always visible in circle navigation. However, certain actions within these sections (such as adding services to a roadmap) may require specific products to be activated. ## What This Means for You **If you're on Platform (no products activated):** You’ll see several gray navigation items. You can explore these screens to understand what's available, but you'll need to activate products to use them. **If you have QMS activated:** You'll have full access to Incidents, Risks, and Feedbacks. Other features like Services and Calendar will appear gray. **If you have CMS activated:** You'll have access to Services and Reports. CMS Enterprise adds access to **Calendar** and staff availability features. **If you upgrade or downgrade:** Your navigation will automatically update to reflect your new product access. For example, if you downgrade from CMS Enterprise to CMS Professional, the Calendar label will turn gray and any scheduled appointments will be hidden (but not deleted). ## Why We Do It This Way We keep all navigation labels visible because it provides: - **Transparency** - You know what features exist without hunting through upgrade pages - **Discovery** - You can explore features before purchasing - **Context** - You understand what your subscription includes vs. what requires an upgrade This way, you're never surprised by hidden features, and you can make informed decisions about which products best fit your needs. ## Need to Activate a Product? If you see a grayed-out feature you'd like to use: 1. Click the feature label 2. Try to interact with the screen 3. Click **Activate** in the popup 4. You'll be taken to the Credit Modal to activate the required product ![[help/setup-and-configuration/Attachments/Comm.care (4).gif]] Only Managers can activate products.
